Filmmaker, Mohit Suri’s new film, Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has been winning hearts for its love story, music and powerful emotions. Apart from music and love, one moment from the film is grabbing a lot of attention, which is when Ahaan’s character pays a tribute to cricketer, Virat Kohli. This scene touched a lot of hearts, but recently Mohit Suri revealed the real story behind this sweet reference.
Mohit Suri shares a memory of young Virat Kohli
During a recent interview on The Right Angle, Mohit Suri shared the actual reason behind him using Virat Kohli’s reference in the film. He said that he remembers seeing Virat Kohli in a nightclub, years ago, when Virat was a newcomer and Mohit had overheard him saying that one day he will be the biggest cricketer. Mohit revealed that Virat’s confidence stayed with him for years and now, Virat Kohli has fulfilled that dream. In his words:
“I remember seeing Virat Kohli once when he was like a newcomer in a nightclub I think. And I remember him once saying, ‘You see, I’m going to be the biggest cricketer’, overheard him saying it to some people. And he was a newcomer that time. He’s younger than me, so I’ve seen that and he’s had his ups, and the glorious career that he’s had. But he’s had his downs also. And then he comes back after over a thousand days and scores a century again.”
Saiyaara director, Mohit Suri continued by saying that he sees a deep connection between Virat and his film. He explained that the way Virat Kohli approached his cricket career, he wanted to do the same for music. He didn’t just want to give hit music, but something that leaves an impact and lasts for ages. He shared that Virat Kohli’s journey was the perfect example to add in the film, as this film is also about passion, determination and creating something unforgettable. He said:
“He truly is a legend and you’ll have people who make scores and break records but if you want to be remembered forever, you have to live the life that Virat lived. That was the best example to give. He’s done it his way. He’s given to cricket. So I just wanted this analogy to make music, not by just making a hit, not just scoring a century, but by giving something back to music like how Virat has. So, all power to him man. I’m a Virat Kohli fan.”
The connection between Ahaan Panday’s character in Saiyaara and Virat Kohli
On analysing the film a little deeper, fans have found another special connection between Virat Kohli and Ahaan Panday’s character, ‘Krish Kapoor’. Ahaan plays the role of a young man, who is full of confidence and passion. Even though, he hasn’t got his big break as a singer, he knows that someday he will be at the top and ‘Krish’ has that fire inside him.

The character looks like a mirror image of how Mohit Suri described Virat Kohli. Virat was a newcomer and he had that belief and fire inside him that he will be at the top. This connection made the character even more layered and relatable for the audience.
