Post-pandemic, there have been instances where hits have been few and far between. In that regard, July 2025 has stood out. There were four Fridays in this month and every Friday, there was a success at the box office. In fact, it’s difficult to remember the last time it happened where there was a hit film every week in a month.

BLOCKBUSTER-n-HISTORIC July: From Saiyaara to Mahavatar Narsimha, every Friday delivered a Hit as box office soars past Rs. 568 cr in one month; also goes beyond the July 2011 streak 568 : Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

BLOCKBUSTER-n-HISTORIC July: From Saiyaara to Mahavatar Narsimha, every Friday delivered a Hit as box office soars past Rs. 568 cr in one month; also goes beyond the July 2011 streak

It began with the release Metro…In Dino and Jurassic World: Rebirth on July 4. The former started on a slow note but the word of mouth, music and subject proved to be an advantage. It held very well on the weekdays and even its second week was strong. Jurassic World: Rebirth, meanwhile, is a part of the ‘critic-proof’ franchise. Every film of the series has worked and this one is no exception. It’s currently in its fifth week, where it’s expected to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark.

A lot of challenges lay in front of Superman, the July 11 release. Again, the word of mouth coupled with the popularity of the superhero helped big time. The film is on its way to cross the Rs. 50 crore mark before the end of this week.

July 18 was epic as Saiyaara was released on this date. The film opened with a bang and then refused to slow down, even on the weekdays. By the end of Week 2, it had earned a whopping Rs. 285.25 crores and will cross the Rs. 300 crore mark before the end of the third weekend.

Last week’s Mahavatar Narsimha, meanwhile, came out of the syllabus. It opened at Rs. 1.46 crores and ended the week by earning Rs. 5.92 crores on Thursday. It has earned Rs. 32.82 crores in its first week and it’s difficult to predict how long it’ll continue to sustain at the box office, looking at the current trends.

Lastly, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has underperformed but has managed to earn Rs. 25 crores in its first week. In short, these six films collectively earned Rs. 542.60 crores.

Meanwhile, the other releases of the month, which didn’t hit the bullseye at the box office, like Maalik, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Smurfs, Tanvi The Great and Nikita Roy helped amass Rs. 25.82 crores. The total of the earnings of the July releases, thus, comes to Rs. 568.42 crores. If one also takes into account the collections of the June releases like Sitaare Zameen Par, Maa and F1: The Movie, the Rs. 600 crore mark will be crossed.

One might argue that there have been several months where films have collected more than Rs. 600 crores. But in such cases, it’s usually one or two films that take up the lion’s share of the collections while the rest of the week, there’s either no release or underperforming business done by other movies. But July 2025 stood out as every week, there was a celebration at the ticket window.

    July 2011 déjà vu
A close parallel that one can draw is exactly 14 years ago. July 2011 began with a bang with Delhi Belly. This was followed by the release of Murder 2 on July 8. July 15 was even better when Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara stormed the cinemas. Before audiences could take a breather, the mass action entertainer, Singham, was released on July 22. But there was one issue. The week after that, July 29, saw the release of non-performing films. July 2025, meanwhile, didn’t have any such dry or poor Friday.

The collection of July releases, until July 31, 2025:
    Saiyaara – 285.25 cr
Jurassic World: Rebirth – 97.93 cr
    Metro…In Dino – 53.66 cr
    Superman – 47.94 cr
    Mahavatar Narsimha – 32.82 cr
The Fantastic Four: First Steps – 25 cr
    Maalik – 19.20 cr
Tanvi The Great – 1.82 cr
Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan – 1.61 cr
    Smurfs – 1.30 cr
I Know What You Did Last Summer – 1 cr
    Nikita Roy – 0.89 cr
    Total: Rs. 568.42 cr
