Republicans burst into celebration as Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to deploy 10,000 Mexican soldiers to ensure that both migrants and drugs do not enter the United States — which started the tariff war with Donald Trump. After the phone call, Trump announced that he would pause the tariffs for one month for Mexico as the negotiations go on. “At this rate of achievement, not only should President @realDonaldTrump be on Mount Rushmore, I want to personally work the chisel!” Elon Musk posted.
“For three days a lot of the far left has actively rooted against America and argued we’d get nothing out of President Trunp’s demands that Mexico secure its country. Well, how do you like them apples?” Vice President JD Vance posted.

The Mexico tariffs were set to take effect Tuesday but the last-minute deal pushed it for a month now as Sheinbaum agreed to deploy 10,000 troops. The agreement, two days after Trump also announced tariffs of 25% against Canada and 10% against China, came amid fears that the measures would disrupt the global economy, roiling stock markets around the world.
Over the weekend, Canada announced retaliatory levies of 25% on U.S. goods. China vowed to file a case against the United States at the World Trade Organization and take “corresponding countermeasures to firmly safeguard its rights and interests.”
Trump signaled Sunday that Europe could be his next target, telling the BBC that tariffs “will definitely happen with the European Union” and could come “pretty soon.” European leaders responded Monday that a trade war with the United States would destabilize economies on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tariff war with Canada
In response to Trump’s tariff, Canada has targeted US products and especially products from the Republican states. Trump said he spoke with Trudeau and will again speak later today as the two leaders discuss the way out of the tariff war.
Mount Rushmore
Mount Rushmore, in south Dakota, features the heads of four presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has already introduced a bill proposing to carve Trumo into Mount Rushmore. The bill, which does not include any details on the timing or funding of the project, includes a rendering of Trump’s figure in stone next to Lincoln’s.
“Mount Rushmore, a timeless symbol of our nation’s freedom and strength, deserves to reflect his towering legacy—a legacy further solidified by the powerful start to his second term,” Luna said.
