Akshay Kumar’s movie, Housefull 5, made waves when it was released. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs. 225-250 crore, the film has grossed Rs. 232 crore worldwide, as reported. Apart from that, it was released in 5000 theatres, which made it one of the widest-released Hindi films. After running for weeks on the silver screens, Housefull 5 is now on the OTT platforms. As of August 1, 2025, Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Housefull 5 has two different climaxes in 5A and 5B: Where do these two versions differ?
For the unversed, Housefull 5 has two alternative endings as Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. Talking about the same, producer, Sajid Nadiadwala revealed that this idea has been in his mind for over 30 years, that the movie will have two endings in each theatre, which would leave the audience talking about it for a long time. Housefull 5’s plot revolves around solving the murder of a billionaire on a cruise ship, who, before his death, announced that his successor, ‘Jolly’ will get his wealth.
That’s where the confusion tangles up since the movie features three ‘Jollys’ as Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh. As the story unfolds, the three ‘Jollys’, their three girlfriends are introduced, and the comic lineups, unimaginable chaos, become the glue that holds the entire plot together, making the 140-minute movie a treat for cinephiles.
But let’s come to the climax. While the first 2 hours of the movie remain exactly the same for 5A and 5B, the last 20 minutes are different, and they unfold different story lines, with different climaxes and different killers. Yes! The key difference between Housefull 5A and 5B lies in how the claimants build up the story, unfolding the mystery by introducing different killers.
Which one is better: Housefull 5A or Housefull 5B
Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B tell the same story, but with different killers in the end. While 5B attempted to follow the similar thought process and storyline of Housefull 5A, it became less convincing for the viewers. According to the audience, they preferred the 5A version over 5B because they felt the first version perfectly captured the climax and was more convincing when the killer was revealed.
It’s not that the 5B received bad reviews, but a slightly lighter climax and an alleged forced ending helped the first version get picked in preference, as it seemed. While people remained confused about which version to watch, the makers and the lead actors had earlier urged people to watch both versions to get different treats.
Why were two versions of Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B created?
It was the 5th instalment of the Housefull franchise, and featured a huge star cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Dino Morea, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma. The reason two versions were created was possibly to boost viewership and repeat bookings. Since both versions had different screenings, this would encourage viewers of 5A to watch 5B out of curiosity. It’s surely a clever gimmick, and the makers also wanted to possibly re-ignite the trend of watching movies repeatedly in theatres, which these two versions could lead people to do.
