The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 400 kilograms of hydroponic ganja from the luggage of a woman passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. The contraband is estimated to be worth Rs 40 crore, according to an official release issued by the NCB on Wednesday.

Based on specific intelligence inputs, NCB officials intercepted the woman at the airport and discovered the substance concealed in her two check-in bags. Initial investigation revealed that the woman had procured the hydroponic ganja in Bangkok and returned to India via Dubai in an apparent attempt to avoid suspicion.

The NCB noted that there have been several previous instances where hydroponic ganja was recovered from passengers arriving directly from Bangkok at various Indian airports. By choosing a route through Dubai, the woman may have hoped to evade detection.

Further investigation is underway to trace the woman’s connections both in Thailand and in India, the NCB added.

WHAT IS HYDROPONIC GANJA OR HYDRO GANJA?

Hydroponic ganja refers to cannabis plants grown without soil. This method gives growers precise control over the plant’s environment, which can result in quicker growth and higher yields. Hydroponics is a method of cultivation without soil, where plants are grown in a nutrient-rich water solution, often supported by an inert medium such as coco coir, perlite, clay pellets, or rockwool.
