JAMMU: The office of the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Jammu South — probing the death of a suspected drug smuggler in a shootout with cops in Surey Chak area during an anti-narcotics operation on July 24 — through a public notice issued late Monday, has urged citizens to come forward with any information that might aid the investigation.J&K govt had on July 25 ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of Mohammad Parvez Ahmed, a 21-year-old tribal man from Javed Nagar, Beli Charana (Jammu), after his family alleged that he was killed in a “fake encounter” and demanded a judicial probe. Two policemen were suspended pending further investigation, while Satwari Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS and Arms Act.The notice requested that the public submit any relevant knowledge, inputs, evidence, or statements concerning the case to the SDM office for a fair and transparent inquiry. “Statements, information or evidence (oral or written) may be submitted in person or in writing to the inquiry officer (SDM, Jammu South) during office hours by or before 4.30pm on Aug 4, 2025. Information can also be shared via email at sdmsouthjammu@gmail.com or by contacting 9484002110,” a spokesperson said.“The identity of individuals providing information or evidence, if desired, shall be kept confidential upon request,” the spokesperson added.On Tuesday, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat said the police force was committed to justice, guided by the core principle of “not touching the innocent and not sparing the guilty”, as laid down by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha the previous day while assuring that further action in the Surey Chak death case would be taken based on the inquiry report.The DGP, while speaking at an event organised to distribute relief among victims of a Rs 2.4 crore job scam, said this mantra defines the ethos and functioning of the police force in the Union Territory. “Our goal is to stand with the oppressed and help resolve their issues. We do our utmost to reach out to those distressed or in pain,” he said.
