Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara, featuring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, brought back the charm of romantic storytelling in Hindi cinema with its rich visuals, soulful music, and performance-centric narrative. The film’s title track made history as the first Bollywood song to break into Spotify’s Top 50 Global chart, where it currently holds the No. 1 position.

The song, sung by Faheem Abdullah with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, features music composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami. In a recent video shared by YRF, the creators opened up about the process behind its making.
Explaining the meaning behind the word ‘Saiyaara’, director Mohit Suri said, “‘Saiyaara’ actually means a heavenly body that travels lonely in the sky. A star is always looked upon as someone who is shining bright, but you know somewhere down the line they are burning themselves up to light up your night.” The metaphor beautifully captures the essence of the film’s theme, of silent strength, solitude, and the quiet sacrifice behind what seems luminous on the surface.
Sharing how the song came together, Mohit Suri said, “I was struggling with the song and I called up Tanishk saying I need help. He made me meet Arslan and Faheem. You know, they’re just raw talent from Kashmir. And then Irshad bhai came in and he’s the one who added the magic to the melody.”
Lyricist Irshad Kamil spoke about his experience working on the title track, saying, “When Mohit sir shared this composition with me and I heard it, I instantly loved it. And since it was the title song, it had to carry all the emotions that the characters go through in the film.”
Music composer Tanishk Bagchi shared his thoughts on collaborating with the team, saying, “When I met Fahim, like Fahim and Arslan, and I heard their tracks, I really loved them. Fahim’s voice also has that rawness. Though he is a classical singer, he has something which is very strong, and you remember the voice.”
Talking about guiding Faheem’s vocal approach for the track, Mohit Suri said, “I wanted him to not go very Sufi classical on it, but to go still more rock about the whole thing.”
Singer Faheem Abdullah reflected on his approach to performing the track, saying, “The most important thing was, don’t do too many of these variations while you’re singing it. Just keep it true. Keep it simple. There will come a point where you will yourself understand where you have to bring in all those variations, and that becomes very special.”
Tanishk Bagchi also recalled how Faheem was initially self-conscious while recording the song in front of Mohit Suri. Faheem shared that it was Tanishk who encouraged him to let go of those inhibitions, helping him sing freely by closing his eyes and truly feeling the emotions, without worrying about who was watching.
Tanishk Bagchi opened up about the personal emotions he poured into the song. “I’ll tell you, I was also having a break-up in the middle,” he said. “And that’s when I was doing all these songs. And I was able to relate a lot. While singing, I felt, I missed that moment with her. If anybody is going through a break-up, they will go and patch up the next day, hearing this song.”
Irshad Kamil shared his thoughts on the emotional impact of the song. He said, “In our lives, we often feel a deep lack of romance, a lack of love. So after such a long time, a romantic song like this has come along, I believe this song will fill that gap and will stay with people for a long time.” His words reflected the heartfelt intention behind the lyrics and the song’s potential to connect deeply with listeners.
