The Fantastic Four: First Steps is making waves at the global box office. According to Deadline, it has already earned back its massive budget of USD 200 million within days of release. Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and more, the film already won the hearts of MCU fans who haven’t been able to get over the game-changing finale of the film. Although it is set in the alternative Earth-828 timeline, the finale scene promises a major change in the MCU.
At the centre of the thrilling end is the antagonist, ‘Galactus’, who has set his eyes on Earth, which soon changes as he eyes ‘Sue’ and ‘Reed Richards’ newborn son, ‘Franklin’. So, is he successful in his devious motives? Find out. (Warning: major spoilers ahead).
‘Galactus’ wants ‘Sue’s newborn baby, ‘Franklin Richards’
Talking about the end of the film, after capturing the ‘Fantastic Four’, ‘Galactus’ reveals that he is not only looking to consume and end a new planet, but he also wants freedom from his constant hunger. Since he is cursed with an eternal hunger, he gets to know that ‘Sue’ and ‘Reed’s newborn child has cosmic power. He thinks that the baby, ‘Franklin’s power, could absorb his curse. It showcases a tragic and vulnerable side of ‘Galactus,’ who is desperate to end the curse and his suffering.
However, ‘Reed’, ‘Sue’, and ‘Ben’ immediately refuse to sacrifice ‘Franklin’ in exchange for leaving his bid to claim Earth. Later, when ‘Reed’ shares the condition put forward by ‘Galactus’ and their decision to protect their son with the masses, it leads to a public outcry. Earth’s population believes that it is better to sacrifice one baby in exchange for billions on Earth, but also, in the end, it unites everyone like a team against ‘Galactus’.
Does ‘Galactus’ win the final battle?
When ‘Galactus’ comes to Earth, the ‘Fantastic Four’ begin to execute their plan. They attract him to a big teleportation bridge, which was made to transport planets. They are about to lose when ‘Sue’ uses all her power to push ‘Galactus’ into the portal, yet fails. Amid this, ‘Galactus’s ally, his herald, ‘Shalla-Bal’ a.k.a ‘Silver Surfer’ steps in to help the group of four. By then, she had regained her humanity after ‘Johnny Storm’ helped her recall how many people lost their lives under ‘Galactus’. She betrays him and delivers a final blow to push him somewhere deep in the universe.

‘Doctor Doom’ arrives, setting the stage for a new battle
After ‘Sue’ uses all her power, she dies. But her son, still an infant, brings her back to life with his power in a single touch. It shocks ‘Reed’, who knew nothing about his son’s power. ‘Sue’ opens her eyes with a glow hinting that Franklin’s power might have changed her. On the other hand, after four years, ‘Doctor Doom’, dressed in green, visits ‘Franklin’. He removes his mask before the toddler, hinting that he is aware of the little one’s power, and starts a devious plan, setting the stage for Avengers: Doomsday. Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether ‘Shalla-Bal’ has survived or not. She might have travelled with ‘Galactus’ or escaped somewhere, but nothing is confirmed.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has set the stage for Avengers: Doomsday, which has already been announced to release on December 18, 2026. Given the connection between the two films, it will be interesting to see how ‘Franklin’s character develops in the upcoming film and whether ‘Galactus’ makes a comeback.
