Danish actor, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, became a globally recognised star with his portrayal of the charismatic and complicated knight, ‘Jaime Lannister’. Nukaka was born in Greenland
Nukaka was born in Uummannaq, Greenland, on February 23, 1971 and was named Sascha Nukaka Motzfeldt. However, professionally, she only goes by her middle name. She was born into a political family, with her father, Josef Motzfeldt, serving as Minister for Finance and Foreign Affairs in Greenland and her mother, Vivi. Nukaka comes from a multi-cultural background and is of Inuit, German and Norwegian descent.
Nukaka’s pageant history and winning Miss Greenland
Before stepping into the entertainment industry, Nukaka was initially a pageant queen. She won the Miss Greenland title and then went on to participate in the Miss Universe 1990 pageant. Though the title that year was won by Mona Grudt of Norway, and Nukaka finished in 19th place, she achieved a rare feat. Greenland’s highest ever placement in the pageant was 19th place.
Nukaka’s career as a singer and actor
After her stint as a pageant queen, Nukaka then ventured into singing. Some of her popular songs include Aajumaaq and the music album, Zedna. Apart from that, she also featured in the famous song, Greatest Greenland. Then, from being a singer, Nukaka transitioned into an actress. She first appeared in the film, Heart of Light in 1998. Her last film appearance was in 2018, where she played the titular character in Anori. Nukaka has also worked on TV shows. She was recently seen in the American TV series, The Wheel of Time.
How did Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Nukaka meet?
Nikolaj and Nukaka first met each other while working on a radio play as actors. Both of them were 26 years old at the time. In an interview with Body and Soul, the actress said that Nikolaj was playing a Danish pilot and she was essaying the role of a Greenlandic girl, with whom he falls in love. It was during this play they met and fell in love, and the rest in history. Nukaka said in the interview:
“We met acting on a radio play 22 years ago. Nikolaj was playing this Danish pilot, who went to Greenland and fell in love with a Greenlandic girl—and that was me! He proposed four months later. And here we are, 22 years later.”
Nukaka is quite active on her social media and often posts throwback pictures of her with her husband. She also expresses her love for Nikolaj on his birthday and anniversary posts. On one of his birthdays, Nukaka took to her Instagram handle and posted three photos. One was when they were 26 years old, the second was them recently, and the third photo was of their beautiful daughters. In the caption, the actress penned down:
“Once upon a time two young 26 year old, one with soft beard and one with soft round cheeks meet each other and played young lovers in a feature, and a love tail’s first page was written ..Today with less soft beard and less puffy cheeks, blessed with two beautiful souls in their lifes and many new stories to tell you can add the age with 25.”
Nikolaj has also been quite expressive with his love for Nukaka. In an interview with Cosmopolitan Germany, he recalled the exact date and time when he saw his future wife. The actor stated that when he saw Nukaka, even before speaking to her, he had already told his colleagues that he was getting married soon. In the interview Nikolaj was quoted as saying:
“It was on March 17, 1997, at 8:37 in the morning. I saw her and knew, ‘She’s The One.’ Even before I’d said one word to her, I told my theater colleagues, ‘Guys, I’m getting married soon.'”

Nikolaj and Nukaka got married in an intimate ceremony in 1998. However, neither of them has ever divulged any information about their wedding, so it must have been a very private affair. Recently, on their 25th wedding anniversary, Nukaka posted a photo from their wedding day. The actress looked as beautiful as ever in her wedding gown and veil. Meanwhile, Nikolaj looked inconspicuous with his buzz cut, but was dashing nonetheless. In the caption, Nukaka dedicated few lyrics of one of Sara Vaugn’s songs, which the couple listened to when they were dating: The lyrics were:

Nikolaj and Nukaka are proud parents to two beautiful girls. Their oldest daughter is named Filippa, and their youngest is Safina. Following in their parents’ footsteps, both girls have marked their debut in the Danish entertainment industry. Filippa was featured in the short film, The Girl and the Dogs. Meanwhile, Safina starred in a Danish TV series called Theo og Den Magiske Talisman.
