Nike Is Finally Bringing Back These Foamposites After 15 Years

Nike’s “Cough Drop” Air Foamposite One sneaker will be released next month for just the third time ever, and new official product images reveal yet another layer for the upcoming release.

The 2025 Nike Air Foamposite One Cough Drop was previewed by the brand in early July as part of its seasonal Snkrs Showcase livestream. With a two-tone Black/Varsity Red colorway, the version previewed by Nike included a solid-colored red outsole; a detail which was featured on the style’s original 2007 release. Three years later, Nike reissued the shoe with a translucent, lozenge-like red rubber outsole, an aesthetic which resulted in the “Cough Drop” nickname.

Initial previews of the ’25 iteration, including Nike’s own, showed a pair that closely resembled the opaque appearance of the ’07 version. However, newly surfaced nike.com assets show a translucent sole which matches the cough drop-like look of the ’10 style. Given that the latest photos are used for the brand’s e-commerce images, it’s all but confirmed that the upcoming release will feature the translucent outsole.

Rather than an intentional bait-and-switch on Nike’s part, this is likely a case of the brand producing multiple sample versions of the style with slight variations. Many of the pairs featured on the brand’s Snkrs Showcase streams are in fact sample versions, so it’s likely that a last-minute call was made to switch to the more see-through look for the retail iteration.

Other upcoming Foamposite releases of note include the Air Foamposite Pro Pearl, Air Foamposite Pro Pine Green and a Carbon Fiber-textured spin on the Air Foamposite One.

Either way, it’s unlikely that such a small difference will deter fans of the style who have been waiting 15 years for a proper reissue. They won’t have to wait much longer, as the pair is set to be released on Aug. 15 from Nike’s Snkrs platform and select Nike Sportswear stockists for a retail price of $230. The Black/Varsity Red colorway has a style code of IB2219-001.
