Alexander Isak is reportedly looking to leave Newcastle United this summer to explore new opportunities.

According to The Athletic, the Swedish striker’s absence from the club’s pre-season friendly against Celtic, as well as their ongoing Asian tour, had raised questions — and now, anonymous club sources suggest the player has expressed a desire to move on.

While Newcastle officially stated that Isak missed the pre-season action due to a minor thigh issue, reports indicate that it may be more than just an injury keeping him sidelined. The uncertainty surrounding his future has reportedly led to internal discussions, with the club now preparing for the possibility of a high-profile exit.

Despite the speculation, Newcastle remain determined to retain the 24-year-old and have tabled an improved contract that would keep him at the club until June 2028. However, with interest from top clubs — including Liverpool earlier in the window — Newcastle’s position may soon be tested.

Liverpool had been exploring a potential move for Isak but were met with a firm stance from Newcastle, who valued the forward at around 120 million. Instead, the Merseyside club opted to sign French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for 69 million — a player Newcastle had also been tracking.

Isak has been a revelation since his arrival from Real Sociedad in 2022. Last season, he netted 27 goals across all competitions, including a crucial strike in the Carabao Cup final, which helped Newcastle end their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy. His performances have established him as one of the top forwards in the Premier League.

Given his age, profile, and consistent goal output, Isak is now attracting interest from Europe’s elite. For Newcastle, the situation presents a dilemma: cash in on a player at his peak value or double down on keeping him with a long-term deal.

Either way, with the summer window heating up and interest growing, the coming weeks could be crucial in deciding whether Isak remains a cornerstone of Newcastle’s project — or becomes one of the most high-profile departures of the summer.
