NEW DELHI: Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday called for a leader from Telangana to be appointed as the next Vice President of India, following Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation. He also strongly pitched for Bandaru Dattatreya, citing his OBC background and past political sidelining by the NDA.

Speaking to ANI, Revanth said he was unaware of the reasons behind Dhankhar’s resignation, but termed it “unfortunate”. “The Vice President should now be from Telangana. Last time, there were discussions about making Venkaiah Naidu the President, but he was sent back. A Telugu-speaking leader was denied that position and later made to return home. As a correction, Bandaru Dattatreya was given the Governor post in Haryana,” he said.Revanth further pointed out that when Dattatreya was Union minister, his position was handed over to G Kishan Reddy. Similarly, he claimed the BJP replaced OBC leader Bandi Sanjay as Telangana party president with Brahmin leader Ramchander Rao.“The NDA has consistently downgraded OBC leaders in South India, especially in Telangana. To make up for that injustice — ‘100 khoon maaf karne ke liye’ (to pardon those 100 wrongs) — it would be appropriate to appoint Bandaru Dattatreya as the next Vice President,” Telangana CM said.
