Bollywood actor Richa Chadha has candidly revealed the emotional turmoil she went through when she discovered her pregnancy, describing her early days of motherhood as fraught with fear and anxiety.
Richa Chadha admits to initial fear of having a baby girl; says, “We live in India, I have to buy a gun”
Speaking in an interview with YouTuber and talk show host Lily Singh, Richa shared that her first reaction to learning she was pregnant was uneasy. “I was a little bit afraid. There’s climate change, there’s a genocide, there’s so much rubbish going on in the world. Is having a child a good idea?” she reflected.
She elaborated on the profound shift from independence to full-time responsibility: “When you are super independent, that bit changes instantly, because you have to be responsible for a human being. To commit to a child’s only supply of food for the first six months at least is a big commitment. My initial response was fear. I was like, oh my god, is my life over?”
That fear deepened after Richa learned she was expecting a daughter. Half in jest and half in seriousness, she admitted, “I was like, ‘We live in India, I have to buy a gun.’”
She further explained how her fears transformed into determination: “But then later I was like, ‘No, we will see. We will raise her to be strong like me.’”
Richa and her husband, actor Ali Fazal, welcomed their daughter, Zuneyra Ida Fazal, on July 16, 2024. They shared the news in a joint statement expressing their joy: “We are tickled pink with joy to announce the arrival of a healthy baby girl on 16.07.24! Our families are overjoyed, and we thank our well‑wishers for their love and blessings!” The couple has opted to keep Zuneyra’s face private.
On the work front, Richa was last seen portraying Lajjo in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix series Heeramandi. She is set to return to the comedy genre in her upcoming project, marking a shift following the success of Fukrey 3.
