    NEW DELHI: Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan on July 31 will take over as the next chief of the premier Mumbai-based Western Naval Command (WNC), which played a crucial role during Operation Sindoor, while Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan will succeed him as Navy vice chief at the headquarters.Commissioned in July 1987, Vice Admiral Swaminathan has commanded frontline warships like guided-missile destroyer INS Mysore and aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya as well as the country’s Western Fleet at Mumbai. Serving as the Navy vice chief since May 2024, he will succeed Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh.Vice Admiral Vatsayan is a gunnery and missile systems specialist. He is the deputy chief of integrated defence staff (policy planning & force development) at present. TNN
