NEW DELHI: A former member of Donald Trump’s administration died recently in Washington after being shot. Mike Gill sustained major injuries and succumbed to death. During Trump’s presidency, Gill served as the chief of staff at the CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission).
On Monday night, Gill was seated in his car when an assailant entered the vehicle and shot him.Kristina, Gill’s wife, broke the news of his demise on Fox 5 DC news.
Kristina said, “It is with profound sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill,” in a statement. “His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled.” “In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer condolences and assistance.” At the time of his death, Gill was working as a senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council, a nonprofit. He is remembered as a beloved father, husband, and friend. Former CFTC chairman Christopher Giancarlo called Gill “one of the most wonderful, honest, earnest, and open-hearted persons on this earth.”
US police have identified the shooter as Artell Cunningham, 28. According to the authorities, Cunningham, an hour after the incident, tried stealing other vehicles. He approached the cars and demanded their keys.
Cunningham, who is also accused of another killing, was later shot and killed by law enforcement.
According to reports, carjacking incidents have been increasing in recent years in Washington, DC. Residents have confronted their frustrations and concerns regarding the ongoing crimes.
In November 2023, DC police documented 250 homicides from January to November, marking the highest figures the city had witnessed since 2003. In that same timeframe, 908 incidents of carjacking were recorded, with firearms being involved in 77% of cases.
