Shaan R Grover is getting a lot of appreciation and love for his role as ‘Mahesh Iyer’ in debutants- Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda’s recently released romantic movie, Saiyaara. The film has been directed by Mohit Suri, and Shaan essays ‘Aneet’ a.k.a ‘Vaani’s ex-fiance, who calls off their wedding in the last second. The end of this relationship is shown to be the start of the movie. As much as fans cried seeing Ahaan and Aneet’s on-screen love, they hated ‘Mahesh’. Now, the actor opened up about the nepotism debate and shared his thoughts on playing an antagonist.

For the unversed, Ahaan is the nephew of Chunky Panday and is the cousin of Ananya Panday, who are both established stars in the Bollywood film industry. Shaan sat down for an interview with Zoom and shared about the current nepotism debate. For the unversed, Aditya Chopra had asked Mohit Suri if he could do a movie with Ahaan. The director was not convinced with Ahaan as a lead hero, and now Shaan, speaking on the nepotism debate, shared:

“If it is giving you actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Ahaan Panday, why are people complaining about it? I have known Ahaan since 2016. We started our journeys together. I was still in the casting without knowing what I wanted to be. We were still in college. We saw something in each other.”

Shaan Grover attended chemistry-related workshops for Saiyaara

Shaan, going further in the interview, shared that before Saiyaara hit the theatres and even during the shooting, he and Aneet used to attend chemistry workshops so that they got to know each other skin deep. They attended so that the bonding was done, and when they rehearsed the scenes, it became easy for them. Shaan shared:

“It was also to show that we dated for five years. For the backstory in the original script I had read, we had dated for five years, and that’s a long relationship. It shouldn’t have felt that we met 2-3 months ago.”

Shaan is unable to handle the love he has for his role in Saiyaara. His character is reminding audiences of their toxic ex who left their love in the middle of the road for someone else or for some other reason. The audience loves to hate him, and that is the impact he created with his character. Shaan also marked his debut in the movie industry after doing a few OTT projects.

Shaan Grover opens up on the value of talent over being favoured

Shaan in the interview could not stop praising Aneet and Ahaan. He shared that both of them were working hard daily, in and out, as it was their movie. He had to go for workshops with Aneet as both their characters needed to portray them being in a relationship for five years. Apart from going for rehearsals, Shaan did share that nepo kids get a better start. However, he also noted:

“But look at me, I am doing a YRF film as the baddie, outsiders also get chances. It is my destiny, luck and hard work here on. If you are talented, you will get a chance. Saiyaara is about three different people, with different careers and journeys, coming together to make something so beautiful.”
