ENG vs IND: Akash Deep’s injury adds to India’s woes ahead of 4th Test in Manchester

India have been struck with several injury concerns ahead of the fourth Test against England as fast bowler Akash Deep is also facing the danger of being ruled out of the all-important fixture. India are trailing by 1-2 in the five-match series after their heartbreaking 22-run loss at Lord’s. Hence, the upcoming fixture becomes extremely crucial for the Shubman Gill-led side as the series is on the line.

With the fourth Test just three days away, India have been dealt with another injury blow as Akash Deep is dealing with a groin niggle, according to a report in PTI. The right-arm seamer didn’t have a memorable outing in the third Test at Lord’s as he could only scalp one wicket across two innings.

Akash is racing against time to be fit for the fourth Test set to begin from July 23. His injury has added to India’s woes as Arshdeep Singh has already injured his bowling hand. The left-arm seamer got a cut on his bowling hand while trying to stop the ball during the team’s practice session in Beckenham.

India’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate informed about Arshdeep’s injury a few days back while speaking to the media.

“We’ll take a call on the combination we play, particularly given the Arshdeep situation as well, we’ll make that call closer to Manchester. He took a ball while he was bowlingit’s just a cut, so we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously the medical team has taken him off to see a doctor and obviously if he needs stitches or doesn’t need stitches that’s going to be important to our planning for the next few days,” Ten Doeschate had said.

Meanwhile, Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to the squad as a cover in the wake of recent injuries.
