Known as Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’, AI-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal AI Saud belonged to a Saudi royal family. While his family is known for their own rights, the prince grabbed the attention and got the title of ‘Sleeping Prince’. However, after being in a coma for 20 years, the ‘Sleeping Prince’ of Saudi Arabia passed away on July 19, 2025. When he was only 15 years old, the prince was severely injured in a car accident, and from 2005 to 2025, he had been in a coma.

It was on July 19, 2025, when ‘Sleeping Prince’s father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud and the nephew of the billionaire prince, Al Waleed bin Talal announced the heartbreaking news. He shared that his son passed away on July 19, 2025, at a medical facility in Saudi Arabia. He also posted a photo of his late son, AI-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal AI Saud, on his X (Twitter), and mourned his demise. The post also revealed that his son’s funeral would take place, today, i.e on July 20, 2025. The grieving father’s note could be read as:
“With hearts believing in Allah will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”
Who was Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’, AI-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal AI Saud?
As per the reports by Mirror and Gulf, AI-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal AI Saud was studying in a military school in London when he met with a horrific car accident, which caused him to suffer brain injury, along with internal bleeding, which led him into a coma. He was then admitted to King Abdulaziz Medical City in the Saudi city of Riyadh, wherein he remained in a coma for 20 years, until his death.
Sleeping Prince’s father would often take to his social media handles and share photos of the ‘Sleeping Prince’. He also showed through his posts how his now-late son would have some improvements, like hand movement or finger lifting. On special occasions, the ‘Sleeping Prince’s cabin would get beautiful decor, and over the years, he got several in-person visitors who prayed for his well-being.

If the reports are to be believed, the Sleeping Prince’s doctors once asked his father to end the life support, to which he denied, as he believed that one day, his son’s soul would wake up. He also reportedly said that if God actually wanted AI-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal AI Saud to die in the car accident, then they would be in the graveyard, not in the hospital. Prince’s mother, Reema also expressed how she felt her son’s spirit present among them.
However, it was on July 19, 2025, when the ‘Sleeping Prince’ bid farewell to the world. As per the reports, on July 20, 2025, the funeral will take place. Reportedly, first, the prayer for men would take place after the Asr prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, while for women, it would happen at King Faisal Specialist Hospital, after the Dhuhr prayer.
