Uttar Pradesh Police has solved the case of an unknown woman’s body found in a sack near Shahzad Dam in Lalitpur, officials said on Friday. The woman’s lover, identified as Jagdish, has been arrested for allegedly murdering her.

Police said that the body, discovered two days ago in the Bastagua village area, has been identified as that of 28-year-old Rani Rekaywar, a resident of Karamai village. According to Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mushtaq, Rani had left her husband and two children to live with her lover, Jagdish Rekaywar.

However, a few days later Jagdish allegedly poisoned Rani after feeding her pesticide he bought from the market. He mixed the poison into a cold drink and gave it to her. After she died, Jagdish stuffed her body into a blue sack and dumped it in the Shahzad Dam area.

Police were able to identify the woman through a tattoo on her hand and other clues. Jagdish was arrested soon after the woman’s identity was ascertained.

During interrogation, Jagdish confessed to the crime. He told police that he and Rani had frequent arguments, especially after he decided to marry someone else.

Rani had reportedly left him for another man, which further fuelled his anger and led him to plan the murder.

The police have registered a murder case against Jagdish. Further investigations are ongoing.

The case has drawn local attention due to the brutal nature of the crime and the involvement of close relationships turning fatal. Police officials praised the quick work of the investigation team in identifying the body and apprehending the accused.
