Bollywood actress, Vidya Malavade, is best known for her role in the film, Chak De! India. She was last seen in the Netflix show, Mismatched, for which she received a lot of love. Recently, she shared an emotional tribute to her first late husband, Captain Arvind Singh Bagga, on his 25th death anniversary. She recalled the flight crash in Patna that happened in July 2000. She even spoke about the recent Air India flight crash on June 12, 2025.
Vidya Malavade’s Instagram post for her first late husband
On July 17, 2025, actress Vidya Malavade uploaded a heartfelt Instagram post to mark 25 years since the death of her first husband, Captain Arvind Singh Bagga, who lost his life in a plane crash in Patna in June 2000. In the post, she talked about spending 25 years without looking into his eyes, touching his face or laughing in his arms. She said:
“25 years of not looking into your eyes, touching your face, holding you, talking nonstop nonsense driving you nuts laughing with you, crying in your arms & feeling safe some connects live life after rest in peace, my beloved.”
She even mentioned the recent Air India crash that happened on June 12, 2025. She spoke how that incident brought back all those wounds and memories. In the post, she even called him her guardian angel and guiding light. In her words:
“The crash on 12th June hit where it hurts the most… & even though I may be forgetful.. those memories, every single detail still so fresh in my mind… including how I felt at what moment.. The only thing that really helped me is… to live life in complete surrender & gratitude! Its the way the most bitter lessons turn into blessings.. He’s still my guardian angel.. my guiding light.”
The tragic plane crash of 2000 in which Captain Arvind Singh Bagga died
In July 2000, Captain Arvind Singh Bagga, died in a tragic plane crash. He was flying Alliance Air Flight 7412, which crashed in Patna while landing. The accident killed several people, including Vidya Malavade’s husband. Vidya was just 27 years old at that time and had been married to him for only three years. Even now, after 25 years, the pain of that day stays fresh in Vidya’s heart.

Before getting into film industry, Vidya Malavade was married to Captain Arvind Singh Bagga, who was a commercial pilot. The two tied the knot in the late 1990s, and their marriage lasted for about three years, before her husband died. Vidya has often described their bond as strong and loving. At the time of their wedding, she was still building her career and had not yet made her Bollywood debut. The plane crash incident affected Vidya and shaped her personal life a lot. Later, she married screenwriter, Sanjay Dayma.
