Television history is about to be rewritten — again. Ektaa R Kapoor, one of the most influential creators in Indian entertainment, is bringing back the legendary show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi with a fresh season starting this month as it returns on Star Plus.

Launched in the year 2000, Kyunki… wasn’t just another soap opera — it was a cultural phenomenon. For over eight years, it dominated prime-time television and became a part of millions of Indian households. Now, as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary, Ekta is reuniting fans with Smriti Irani’s Tulsi and Amar Upadhyay’s Mihir, offering a nostalgic revival — but with purpose.
Talking about the decision to return with a new season, Ektaa R Kapoor shared, “We wanted to do a short bout of episodes so that we can actually bring back the memories and most importantly to give back to the medium that gave us so much–television.”
While Tulsi was once the embodiment of idealism and strength, Ektaa Kapoor believes the character can do even more today. In a country where storytelling shapes social narratives, the rebooted Kyunki aims to go beyond entertainment.
“We wanted to use this powerful force to reckon with character that penetrated through large parts of India and help India see her in an updated, newer version and talk about important issues. We are using storytelling to do what we want to do, that is, create impact, awareness, and change mindset,” Ektaa added.
The upcoming season will see familiar faces in a refreshed light, bringing with it a mix of nostalgia and social relevance. Reports also hint at new characters who will join the Virani family to reflect the evolving Indian household and today’s pressing conversations.
Fans of the show are currently awaiting the return of India’s most iconic family saga as the all-new Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is all set to air from July 29 at 10:30 PM only on Star Plus.
