Recognizing that footwear is a key part of a student’s wardrobe needs, Kohl’s Corp. is expanding its shoe options for back-to-school.

The department store said on Thursday that it will offer and expanded assortment mix from top brands that include Converse and its classic Chucks sneaker. The BTS mix also will include Nike Court styles and new Adidas retro-inspired looks. In addition to the sneaker brands, Kohl’s has trend-forward shoe options from Madden Girl that include clogs and sneakers.

“We know value is top of mind for families as they prepare to head back to class this year,” Christie Raymond, Kohl’s chief marketing officer, said. “At Kohl’s, we’re proud to offer great prices on the brands parents trust and the styles kids love — making it easy for everyone to head back to school with confidence, from the first-day outfits to everyday essentials.”

The retailer is also offering BTS essentials such as tees, jeans, and fleece in apparel and other needed items such as backpacks. “Kohl’s is bringing together the value and style families are looking for this back-to-school season with products made to last at affordable prices,” the retailer said.

Kohl’s added that it has expanded its coupon-eligible brands to give consumers more savings for this BTS season. And purchases could earn Kohl’s Cash for customers who are loyalty rewards members.

Because footwear is a necessity, the impact of tariffs on shoe prices is a big concern for parents. A study from AlixPartners and the Footwear Distributors and Retailers Association found that 80 percent of consumers expect to pay more for children’s shoes this fall due to  tariff-driven price increases. It also found that price is a key driver in purchasing decisions, with 77 percent indicating that the “absolute lowest prices” was a major factor in their choice of store, either online or in person, up from 74 percent in 2024.

While Nike Inc. said in May that it was raising prices on select goods, averaging between $2 and $10, the brand won’t be increasing prices on any kids’ products, whether footwear or apparel. In addition, the sports apparel and athletic shoe brand said it also won’t raise prices for any of its Jordan product.

Hibbett in June launched a new kids’-focused app for BTS, Adidas earlier this month released an early BTS sneaker collection featuring Sambas, available at Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker.
