Actress Emma Watson, known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding.

The 35-year-old was recorded driving at 38mph in a 30mph zone while behind the wheel of a blue Audi in Oxford on 31 July 2023.

Watson already had nine penalty points on her licence before this incident. The accumulation of points led to her disqualification, as confirmed during a brief five-minute hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Watson did not attend the hearing, but her lawyer, Mark Haslam, confirmed that she is able to pay the fine. The court ordered her to pay 1,044 in total.

ZOE WANAMAKER ALSO FINED FOR SPEEDING

On the same day, another Harry Potter alum, Zoe Wanamaker, who featured in the role of Madam Hooch, was also convicted for another speeding offence.

According to the BBC, Wanamaker, 76, was caught driving at 46mph in a 40mph zone on the M4 in Newbury, Berkshire, on 7 August 2024.

Similar to Watson, Wanamaker also had nine points on her licence before she committed the offence. She was also fined the same sum, 1,044, and banned from driving for six months.

Her lawyer, Duncan Jones, said that Wanamaker did not expect any special dispensation and was happy with the decision of the court.

Watson has recently stepped back from acting to focus on her studies and her sustainable gin brand. Meanwhile, a new Harry Potter television series is in production with a fresh cast. Wanamaker continues her work in theatre and television.
