The son of a Congress MLA is accused of attempting to run over police constables with his speeding SUV in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur. CCTV footage of the incident, which has gone viral, shows the vehicle veering toward the officers.
Pushpraj Patel, son of Jobat MLA Sena Mahesh Patel, is alleged to have driven his SUV at policemen who were on patrol near a bus stand on Sunday night.
The footage shows one of the constables signalling the driver to stop as the speeding vehicle approached. Instead of stopping, the SUV races past a police barricade before sharply veering left, toward the cops.
The policemen are seen scattering to avoid the oncoming car. One constable narrowly managed to jump clear, but another was reportedly struck by the vehicle before it crashed into an electricity pole. The injured constable’s condition is not yet known.
A case was registered against Pushpraj Patel at the Alirajpur police station, charging him with attempt to murder. Patel is currently on the run.
This is not Patel’s first encounter with the law. In September 2024, a case was filed against him for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 25-year-old woman. A Times of India report stated that the woman had taken her own life after receiving repeated threats from Patel, who was reportedly pressuring her to marry him.
