India gave themselves an excellent opportunity to pull off a memorable win at Lord’s, bowling England out for 192 on Day 4 of the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. England were undone by a disciplined bowling display, led by off-spinner Washington Sundar, who shone with four wickets, complementing the efforts of the pace bowlers.

With both teams having posted 387 in the first innings, England were expected to set a challenging target. However, they squandered four wickets in the morning session, leaving Joe Root and Ben Stokes with a mountain to climb. | Lord’s Test Day 4 Score and Updates |

Washington Sundar emerged as the surprise package for India, claiming four vital wickets — those of Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Shoaib Bashir. Jasprit Bumrah, although initially quiet, picked up two key lower-order wickets, clean bowling Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes. Mohammed Siraj set the tone with a fiery opening spell, removing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope in the first session.

There were several contentious LBW calls in England’s second innings that went against India, and they also conceded 32 extras — the third-highest contribution to England’s innings after Root’s 40 and Stokes’s 33.

While a target of 193 appeared achievable on paper, India were dealt an early blow when Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to a rash pull shot against a Jofra Archer bouncer.

    SUCCESSFUL 190-PLUS CHASES AT LORD’S

Only six times in the history of Test cricket at Lord’s has a target of 190 or more been successfully chased. Remarkably, two of those instances have occurred in the last three years. Only last month, South Africa chased down 282 in the fourth innings against Australia to win their maiden World Test Championship title — a feat achieved on a pitch that had flattened out as the match progressed.

India’s highest successful chase at Lord’s before this Test was 136 for 5 in 1986. In that match, Ravi Shastri and Kapil Dev guided India home against a David Gower-led England side. Reduced to 78 for 4, India were steadied by Shastri (20 off 44) and Mohammad Azharuddin, before Kapil applied the finishing touches with a blistering 23 off 10 balls.

However, the pitch in this third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has been increasingly unpredictable over the last two days. Batting conditions have worsened as the match has progressed, with uneven bounce and developing rough aiding the bowlers significantly.

England’s batters struggled with the inconsistent bounce during the morning session on Sunday, losing four wickets and setting the tone for a dramatic day of cricket.
