Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi lashed out at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on social media, mocking him for his demands and calling out what he described as repeated failures in both Gaza and Iran. His comments came after Netanyahu said that Iran must not produce missiles with a range of more than 480 kilometres.
Araghchi responded in a sharp post on X, saying that Israel’s prime minister has no right to dictate terms to Iran after what he called “a series of failures and miscalculations.”
‘WHAT EXACTLY IS NETANYAHU SMOKING?’
In his post, Araghchi questioned Netanyahu’s credibility and intentions, referring the Gaza war and Israel’s actions against Iran’s nuclear program.
“Netanyahu pledged victory in Gaza almost two years ago,” Araghchi wrote. “The end result: military quagmire, facing arrest warrant for war crimes, and 200,000 new Hamas recruits.”
Turning to Iran’s nuclear program, Araghchi added, “In Iran, he dreamed that he could erase 40+ years of peaceful nuclear achievements. The end result: every one of the dozen Iranian academics that his mercenaries martyred had trained 100+ capable disciples. They will show Netanyahu what they are capable of.”
He accused Netanyahu of trying to cover up Israeli military failures and suggested the Israeli leader had run to allies for support after Iran’s missile strikes.
NETANYAHU CRITICISED FOR RELYING ON TRUMP
Araghchi appeared to refer to US President Donald Trump when he mocked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for seeking external support. In his post, Araghchi wrote, “Having miserably failed to achieve any of his war aims in Iran and compelled to run to ‘Daddy’ when our powerful missiles flattened secret Israeli regime sites — which Netanyahu is still censoring — he is openly dictating what the US should or shouldn’t say or do in talks with Iran.”
“Apart from the farce that Iran will accept anything a wanted war criminal has to say, the inevitable question arises: what exactly is Netanyahu smoking? And if nothing, what exactly does the Mossad have on the White House?” Araghchi added.
CONFLICT INTENSIFIES OVER NUCLEAR ENRICHMENT
The fiery war of words comes amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel over Iran’s nuclear program. Israel has long accused Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons — a claim Tehran denies.
The conflict began when Israel launched a surprise attack on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites. Israel said the attack was necessary to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Iran strongly denied the accusation, stating that its nuclear program is for peaceful energy purposes. In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile strikes on Israeli territory.
On June 22, the United States also joined the fight, launching missile and air strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. President Donald Trump said the US “obliterated” those facilities. After a 12-day conflict, Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran on June 23.
