At the trailer launch of Dhadak 2, producer Karan Johar finally spoke about the delays in the film’s release, which is now slated for August 1, 2025, following several postponements. He acknowledged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for being supportive and sensitive, praising their compassionate approach in handling the film’s sensitive theme of caste-based love, despite the film undergoing 16 cuts during the certification process.

Karan explained, “It took time to reach theatres, but even the censor board was very understanding and very compassionate and absolutely understood what we were trying to say.” He commended the CBFC’s intent to preserve sensitivity and assured that the team respected that approach as well, ensuring the storytelling remained intact without any compromise.

He shared that, despite the common fear of backlash when addressing social issues like caste, he strongly believes artistic freedom must not be restricted. Quoting a powerful line from the film, he said, “‘If you’ve a choice, then fight’, and the best way to get a point across is through art.” Karan also emphasized that “good art cannot be rushed” and that delays can sometimes help a film find its true shape, adding, “These things can’t happen overnight… every good thing takes time.” This reflects his broader philosophy that mainstream cinema can—and should—challenge societal norms thoughtfully and with depth.

Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal, features Siddhant Chaturvedi as Neelesh and Triptii Dimri as Vidhi. The story centres on their college romance, which is complicated by caste divisions. Initially set for a November 2024 release, the film’s launch was postponed to early 2025 and then further delayed to August 1, 2025 due to certification and creative adjustments.

Karan reaffirmed his confidence in the finished film, stating, “It is a story that makes you wake up and think… this is a true reality of our times, no matter where you live.”
