A teenage couple in Pune allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison in a forest near the Khadakwasla dam. Police recovered their bodies on Friday and launched an investigation into the incident.
The 16-year-old girl had been reported missing on Thursday after she failed to return home from her class. Her sister, who had dropped her off earlier that day, approached the police station when the girl didn’t come back. Police began tracing a young man suspected to be in a relationship with the girl.
The boy, a native of Ahilyanagar district, had also gone missing around the same time. His phone was found to be switched off, prompting police to broaden their search.
On Friday, police received a tip about two bodies spotted in the forest area near the Khadakwasla dam. The site was secured, and the police were informed. After identification, police confirmed that the victims were the missing teenagers. Preliminary findings indicated the couple had been in a relationship for the past three years and had died by suicide after consuming poison.
Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, confirmed the deaths and said further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
