A Ma Maniére’s Air Jordan 5 ‘Black Collective’ Is Rooted in the Black South

A Ma Maniére is moving to phase two of its “Every Summer Tells a Story Campaign,” following up its Air Force 1 Low and Air Max 95 with one of the most beloved of all the Air Jordans.

The A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 5 “Black Collective” does double duty, celebrating the iconic model’s 35th anniversary while serving as the focal point for a story on the Black South. As the boutique’s third take on the Air Jordan 5, the sneaker starts with a white base hosting burgundy accents that fit in well with AMM’s established color palette. Faux aging gives the netting a yellowed look to match the outsole, while the mismatched tongue branding sees the A Ma Maniére’s “A” logo take over the left shoe and the Jumpman retains its usual place on the right. A quilted lining brings back another AMM signature, and lace options in cream and black are made of cotton sourced from Seed2Shirt, the first Black-owned, vertically integrated supply chain for apparel in the U.S.

On the custom box, you’ll find a manifesto rooted in Juneteenth with affirmations of freedom, dignity and the right to self-expression.

Charlotte-based artist Rajuma Bey stars in the “Black Collective” campaign film, which depicts Black cowboys, Miss Juneteenth pageantry and dance. In addition to the sneaker, the collection offers elevated essentials through T-shirts, hoodies and shorts also made in conjunction with Seed2Shirt. A Ma Maniére’s Air Force 1 Low “White on White” and Air Max 95 “Diffused Taupe/Phantom,” which released in June, will also get a restock alongside the other products.

A Ma Maniére released its first two Air Jordan 5 collaborations in late 2023, with the “Photon Dust” and “Burgundy Crush” colorways coming just a week apart.

Later this year, the Air Jordan 5 will get a 35th anniversary treatment defined by pink accents.

The A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 5 “Black Collective,” as well as the AF1 Low and AM95 restocks, is available through a raffle on AMM’s website open now through July 21. The full collection will then launch July 25 through A Ma Maniére’s website and stores. Pricing for the Air Jordan 5 is set at $225.
