Actor Mrunal Thakur, who will next be seen in Son of Sardaar 2, recently spoke about taking on the role of Rabia—a lively Punjabi character. The trailer for the film, launched earlier this week, offers a glimpse of her in a spirited avatar, complete with energetic dance sequences and Punjabi dialogues.

At the trailer launch event, Mrunal shared insights into the process of preparing for the role, which included learning the Punjabi accent and adjusting to the rhythm of a distinctly different cultural setting.

“Being a Maharashtrian, it was quite challenging to play a Punjabi role. The accent was a bit tough, and dancing to the beats of the dhol wasn’t easy either. But everyone around helped me through it,” she said. “Interestingly, I even learned some French in Punjabi! If you watch the trailer, you’ll see that Rabia has her own shades. Par, sound bolte hi hum sab form mein aa jaate the,” she added with a smile.

Talking about performing in a comedy, Mrunal highlighted the importance of timing and being present in the moment. “Comedy is also about give and take—you just react to what the other person is saying. Sometimes you’re focused on your line, but a lot of it comes down to improvisation. The line needs to land. If it doesn’t, there’s no point.”

Son of Sardaar 2 marks Mrunal’s first on-screen collaboration with Ajay Devgn. The film is set in a light-hearted tone, blending romance and comedy, and adds a new genre to Mrunal’s growing list of roles.

Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film features an ensemble cast including Ravi Kishan, Deepak Dobriyal, Mukul Dev, Kubbra Sait, Chunky Panday, and others. Son of Sardaar 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 25, 2025.
