The trailer for Dhadak 2 has been released, offering a first look at a complex and emotionally intense story led by Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Directed by first-time filmmaker Shazia Iqbal, the film shifts away from its 2018 predecessor’s romantic tone and ventures into deeper, more layered territory.

Set against a backdrop of social inequality and internal struggle, Dhadak 2 follows Neelesh (Chaturvedi) and Vidhi (Dimri), two individuals navigating a relationship that is both emotionally charged and socially defiant. The trailer showcases a series of scenes filled with longing, silence, and tension — offering glimpses into a world where love is not just challenged by personal differences, but by broader systems of power and identity.
In contrast to traditional romantic drama tropes, the chemistry between the leads leans on restraint and realism. Quiet gestures and unresolved moments form the core of their bond, rather than overt declarations or melodrama. The trailer positions their story as one rooted in survival, vulnerability, and the psychological toll of living truthfully in an environment that punishes difference. But it signals a shift in tone for the franchise — less about romantic idealism, and more about emotional realism and personal cost.
Music plays a subtle but vital role, enhancing the narrative without overpowering it. While Dhadak became known for its emotional soundtrack, the follow-up film appears to use music more atmospherically, aligning with the film’s grounded tone.
Speaking about her debut, director Shazia Iqbal said, “Dhadak 2 is an emotional reckoning for today’s youth. It’s rooted in reality and asks questions that we often shy away from in cinema. Neelesh and Vidhi’s story is about love, but it’s also about survival, identity, and what it costs to be true to yourself in a world designed to silence you.”
Produced by Karan Johar, Umesh Kumar Bansal, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Meenu Aroraa, Somen Mishra, and Pragati Deshmukh, Dhadak 2 is a joint venture under Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures. It is scheduled to release in theatres on August 1, 2025.
