Yash Dayal credited Virat Kohli’s advice, RCB’s backing and sticking to his process as the reasons behind his comeback after the IPL 2023 horror show. Dayal, who was playing for GT at the time, was on the receiving end of an onslaught from Rinku Singh as the KKR batter hit him for five sixes in a row to get his side home. The left-arm pacer was let go by GT ahead of the 2024 season and he was bought by RCB.
Since then, Dayal has become lethal in the death overs, defending 15 runs against CSK recently at the Chinnaswamy stadium to get his side the win. Dayal’s father recently revealed the advice Kohli gave him once he joined RCB and how to move on from the incident. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Dayal said that the advice from Kohli sticks with him and RCB’s support has been the reason behind the results he is getting at the moment.
“It’s a very big thing – I’ve said it before as well – the things Virat bhaiya explained to me still stay in my mind even now. And the kind of backing I received from the RCB management, the support they gave me, the results are clearly because of that. So yes, I would say that the turnaround in my career has happened because of that to a large extent,” said Dayal.
‘Focus on execution’
Dayal said that his process before each game is to control his nerves and not worry about things that aren’t in his control. The pacer said that after the 2023 incident, he is trying to stick to his process rather than look at who the batter is.
“My process is that I try to control my nerves pre-match and rather than worrying, I try not to think about the things that are not in my control. And the second thing is, after what happened in 2023, I try to pay as much attention to the process as possible and not on the batsman. I try to focus on execution,” said Dayal.
