Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni turned 44 on July 7. And as social media celebrated the ex-skipper’s birthday, some also claimed that two people died during a screening of his 2016 biopic “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story”.

People shared an NDTV graphic that said: “2 Dead, 5 Injured, Tragedy Strikes during the screening of the re-released biopic ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’.” Those sharing it also used hashtags like “Arrest Dhoni” on Facebook and X.

India Today Fact Check found that the viral screenshot is fake. NDTV reported no such thing. Dhoni’s biopic was re-released in 2024, not recently. And no mishap took place at a screening at the time.

    Our Probe

If two persons were killed during the purported screening of the MS Dhoni biopic, it would’ve been covered by multiple news organisations. However, we couldn’t find any such incident reported.

Also, the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story” was re-released last year in July. We found no news report stating that the biopic had hit the cinemas again recently.

We also found that NDTV did not publish any such breaking news. Apart from this, we noticed that the fonts in NDTV’s “breaking news” template differ from those in the viral image.

India Today also reached out to NDTV for clarification. The story will be updated as and when we receive a response.

Thus, we can conclude that the viral claim is untrue.
