Sitaare Zameen Par is the fifth Hindi film of the year to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark, the other four being Chhaava, Sikandar, Raid 2 and Housefull 5. It is having a steady run at the box office, especially on the weekends, when the families come out in full force. It is expected to cross the Rs. 150 crores by the end of the third week. What happens after that remains to be seen. Will it cross the lifetime earnings of Raid 2, which earned Rs. 178.08 crores? Or will it go past the collections of Housefull 5, which are expected to be around Rs. 160-162 crores?

When asked about the lifetime numbers, trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “This week, there’s Metro…In Dino which also targets the same audience. There’s also Jurassic World: Rebirth. Both these new releases will impact Sitaare Zameen Par. I am not saying Sitaare Zameen Par will be totally zameen par! But there will be some dent. It’ll cross the Rs. 150 crore mark but I am doubtful if it’ll go beyond that.”
The numbers are great keeping in mind the budget and also the changing trends of moviegoers post-pandemic. Yet, it has given skeptics a chance to bring down the film. They claim that Aamir Khan’s films used to be record-grossers and that it’s not the same anymore.
On this, Taran Adarsh said, “A lot of people say that Aamir Khan had delivered a Rs. 300 crore grosser in the form of Dangal (2016). But this is a different film. This is not on the lines of Ghajini (2008) or Dhoom 3 (2013) or Thugs Of Hindostan (2018). Moreover, every film has a budget. This is not a front-loaded masala action film. This is a word-of-mouth movie.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal replied, “There’s little competition from Bollywood in the third week. Hence, it’ll collect in the range of Rs. 140-150 crores.”
