Apple Inc. has appointed Sabih Khan, an Indian-origin executive and longtime company insider, as its new Chief Operating Officer, succeeding Jeff Williams in a planned leadership transition. Khan, who has been with Apple for 30 years and currently serves as Senior Vice President of Operations, will formally assume the role later this month.
Jeff Williams, who has held the COO position since 2015, will continue to report to CEO Tim Cook and oversee the Apple Watch and design teams. Apple stated that the design team will report directly to Cook once Williams retires later this year.
WHO IS SABIH KHAN?
Born in 1966 in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad, Khan moved to Singapore during his school years before relocating to the United States. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University and a master’s in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
Khan joined Apple’s procurement team in 1995 after beginning his career at GE Plastics. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in shaping Apple’s global supply chain, supplier responsibility programs, and overall operational strategy, ensuring the seamless delivery of the company’s most innovative products.
Khan’s elevation comes at a time when India is playing an increasingly vital role in Apple’s global strategy, both as a key market and as a growing hub for manufacturing.
