NEW DELHI: Elon Musk-owned Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday expressed concern over the government order to block some accounts in India and said it is exploring all legal options available.“On July 3, 2025, the Indian government ordered X to block 2,355 accounts in India, including international news outlets like @Reuters and @ReutersWorld, under Section 69A of the IT Act. Unlike users located in India, X is restricted by Indian law in its ability to bring legal challenges against these executive orders. We urge affected users to pursue legal remedies through the courts,” X said in a post. The post claimed that the government had later requested X to unblock @Reuters and @ReutersWorld.The official X account of Reuters was briefly withheld in India on Sunday, triggering speculation over possible government action. However, the Centre had immediately clarified that it had not requested any such move following which the account was restored later the same day.According to officials, the ministry of electronics and information technology reached out to the social media platform seeking an explanation for the sudden restriction. The government stated it had not issued any directive to block Reuters’ handle.
