The trailer of Saiyaara is finally out, and it has already sent the internet into a frenzy. Directed by Mohit Suri and backed by Yash Raj Films (YRF), the intense romantic drama marks the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in lead roles. But according to Suri, this project almost never happened with newcomers.
Mohit Suri says he ‘gave up’ on Saiyaara with newcomers until Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda blew him away
The acclaimed director revealed he had once scrapped the idea of making Saiyaara with debutants due to a lack of acting talent. Speaking about the journey, Mohit said, “I wouldn’t have made Saiyaara if I hadn’t found formidable actors like Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. I was honestly thinking about making something else before my path crossed with Yash Raj Films that was looking for a young love story and was grooming Ahaan and Aneet to star in such a film.”
He added, “When you make a love story with debutants, they have to be convincing as actors to pull off the emotional layers… I didn’t come across debutants with acting calibre… I had given up on the idea of making this script with debutants.”
Initially, Suri had considered casting established faces to ensure box office success. However, everything changed when he saw Ahaan and Aneet’s auditions. “I met YRF and then I saw the auditions… I was blown away that here are two absolutely fresh new actors who have it in them to act, to surrender to a vision!”, she shared.
The collaboration also marks the first between YRF and Mohit Suri, both known for crafting iconic love stories. YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani stated, “We were looking to tell a real love story that connects to today’s youth… This collaboration with Mohit Suri was always meant to happen.” He continued, “Saiyaara has all the tropes of the vintage Mohit Suri romance that everyone has loved for over 20 years.”
The film also boasts what’s already being called the year’s best album, featuring hit tracks by Faheem-Arslan, Jubin Nautiyal, Arijit Singh & Mithoon, Vishal Mishra, and Sachet-Parampara.
Saiyaara is set to release worldwide on July 18, 2025.
