On July 3, the makers of one of the most awaited films in Indian cinema, Ramayana, officially announced the project’s cast and confirmed its much-anticipated release. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Ravie Dubey, the film is set to be a grand retelling of the Indian epic and has been in development for quite some time.

Among the highlights of the announcement was the confirmation of the star-studded cast that had been speculated for nearly a year. Ranbir Kapoor will be seen essaying the role of Lord Ram, while Sai Pallavi will bring to life the character of Goddess Sita. Ravie Dubey has been cast as Lakshman, Yash will portray the formidable Ravana, and Sunny Deol will take on the role of Lord Hanuman. The makers also unveiled a stunning announcement video that offered a glimpse into the high-quality, cutting-edge VFX audiences can expect from this magnum opus.
Following the announcement, Sai Pallavi took to Twitter (now X) to share her feelings about being part of the monumental project. Expressing her gratitude and excitement, Sai Pallavi wrote, “With the blessings of Maa Sita, I get to experience her journey, along with pioneers picked by the divine to recreate the Epic! The role of Sita in Ramayana marks one of the biggest projects in Sai Pallavi’s career, and her heartfelt post has already resonated with fans across social media. In the past, photos of Sai Pallavi as Sita alongside Ranbir Kapoor as Ram had surfaced online in a leaked set of images, which had already created a buzz around the film’s look and scale.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra along with superstar Yash, the film is written by Shridhar Raghavan. It is slated to be released in two parts, making it one of the most ambitious cinematic ventures in recent times. The first part of Ramayana is scheduled to hit the big screens in Diwali 2026, while the second installment is expected to release on Diwali 2027.
Meanwhile, the cast has been receiving an overwhelming amount of support from the industry and fans alike. Alia Bhatt cheered for Ranbir Kapoor, Ravie Dubey expressed his joy about playing Lakshman, and his wife Sargun Mehta also showered him with love on social media.
