Late veteran actor, Rishi Kapoor, with Poonam Dhillon had given many hit Bollywood movies back in the 1980s that included Zamana, Biwi O Biwi, and Yeh Vaada Raha. Well, back in the 1970s and 80s, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor had ruled the hearts of all with their crackling on-screen chemistry. People loved seeing them together, and both took their friendship to a level higher by getting married. Now, Poonam shared how Neetu stopped doing movies after she got married to Rishi.

Poonam Dhillon reveals how Neetu Kapoor left movies when she entered the industry

Neetu and Rishi were both an iconic pair on and off-screen. They did many movies together, and at the age of 21, Neetu left the movies when her career was at its peak. Her last movie was Ganga Meri Maa, which was released in 1983. Poonam recently sat down for an interview with ANI and shared that when she had entered the movie industry, Neetu was already married and had almost left films. In her words:

“They had just got married when I joined the industry. Neetu had just kind of almost given up. I attended a wedding, had just joined films, but I didn’t see their romance, as I was not in the industry at that time. I saw then during Dusra Aadmi because Yash Chopra ki film thi Rakhee ke sath. I attended one or two shootings at Yash ji’s house.”

Poonam, Dhillon recollects how Rishi Kapoor used to take dal from her plate with his hands

Poonam in the interview, also shared that the whole unit at the film set used to be pampered. She remembered doing the movie, Biwi Oh Biwi with Rishi and everyone more than the shooting was interested in what would be there for lunch. She recollected how Raj Kapoor used to be in the cottage, and they did a lot of shooting in RK Studios also besides shooting in outdoors. That continued throughout. Poonam did call Neetu an epic hostess and shared how when she used to go to their house, and her plate was full with Punjabi khana, Rishi used to take the dal from Poonam’s plate so that she could complete her food. Poonam shared:

“His wife was a legendary hostess. But you know that thing continued later when both of them were no more. If you went to his Chembur house, hospitality was always there. Punjabi khana mostly. I don’t think they ever served pizzas in their house. Late evening, when the time was passing, eating manners would change. I remember going to Chintu’s house, and Neetu made a plate, and I was like, ‘etna mat daal will not eat so much dal. Arey no worries I  will take and with his hand Chintu used to take the dal.”

When Neetu Kapoor’s mom wanted her to be an actress

Neetu’s mother had left no stone unturned in making her daughter create a name in the industry. Neetu’s mom did want to become an actress, but things did not go the way she had decided. Hence, Neetu, who was 8 when she was introduced in the movie industry, worked as a child artist. Neetu did movies such as Dus Lakh, Do Dooni Chaar and Do Kaliyan. It was her song, Bachche Mann Ke Sachhe, that became an instant hit.
