Cricketer, Mohammed Shami and his ex-wife, Hasin Jahan are making headlines again. This time because the Calcutta High Court has made a decision. The two were in a legal battle for many years. The battle started in 2018 and finally in 2025, a decision was made. His ex-wife, Hasin Jahan recently expressed her relief after the court’s decision regarding Mohammad Shami financially supporting them.
The court’s decision on Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan’s case
The legal battle between cricketer, Mohammed Shami and ex-wife, Hasin Jahan started in 2018, when Jahan filed a complaint against Shami, which included allegations like domestic violence and dowry harassment. She also said that Shami was not giving her and her daughter enough financial support. Gradually, the matter reached court and in 2023, court ordered Shami to pay Rs. 50,000 per month to Jahan and Rs. 80,000 for their daughter.
However, Hasin Jahan was not satisfied with that amount. She said that this amount is very less and the needs of her daughter were growing. She also pointed out that she had no independent source of income and Shami can afford to give more money as he is a well-paid international cricketer. Recently, the Calcutta High Court finally revised their previous decision. Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee said that Shami must pay Rs. 1.5 lakh to Hasin Jahan and Rs. 2.5 lakh to their daughter, so a total of Rs. 4 lakh every month. The court said:
“The petitioner’s wife, who remains unmarried and is living independently with the child, is entitled to a standard of maintenance similar to what she enjoyed during the marriage-ensuring both her and her daughter’s future.”
Hasin Jahan’s statement after the court’s decision
After the court’s decision, Hasin Jahan looked relieved and expressed her gratitude towards the legal system. She shared that Shami had not left any option for her, which is why she had to go to court. Despite having a successful career, he was not ready to help her and his daughter financially. Hasin Jahan also opened up about her personal struggles where she mentioned that she was a model but she quit her career because Shami wanted a housewife. She also shared the struggles she has gone through after their separation and how the entire responsibility of her daughter came on her shoulders. For Hasin Jahan, the court’s decision was not just about financial support, but was about justice. She said:
“Thank God there is a law in our country that holds people accountable. I have no independent income. Shami must take full responsibility for our maintenance. That’s why we had to approach the court when he refused. I used to model and act before marriage, but Shami made me quit. He wanted me to live only as a housewife. I loved him and agreed to it. When you enter a relationship, you don’t know the other person’s real character. I didn’t know he would play with my and my daughter’s future. Even God has forgiven the gravest of sinners. But Shami still refuses to think about our daughter’s well-being. He must let go of this stubborn desire to ruin my life.”
