Puneet Issar talked about Amitabh Bachchan’s accident on sets of Coolie
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Puneet talked about the rehearsal before shooting the action scene, and revealed that Amitabh told him to touch him slightly while throwing the punches or else it would look fake. However, the timing of the said stunt was messed up and Amitabh got severely injured. Issar said:
“It was a sequence where I was supposed to hit Mr Bachchan, where he was supposed to throw some punches, and there was a camera angle where I was supposed to catch him and throw him against the board and then catch him and throw him on the table. During the rehearsal, it was visible that I was not touching him so Amit ji said that you can touch me because I will back off anyway. When I banged him against the board, it was reflex action that he came forward and the timing got screwed and I hit him. It was just an accident.”
Puneet revealed that after which a lot was said about him in the media, and people termed him as ‘murderer’. Some even claimed that he had intentionally hurt Amitabh Bachchan, as some actors in the opposition wanted revenge. He even lost many films as they thought it wasn’t right to cast him due to his physique and action he did. Puneet added that after the incident, Amitabh even called him in the hospital and stated that he should not feel sad as it was an accident and nothing much. After the meeting, he even came out to drop him in front of the media to reveal there was no blood between them.
Puneet called the accident a medical negligence
Further in the interview, Puneet revealed that situation could have gotten worse as it was doctor’s negligence. He stated that the doctors were unable to recognise that it was an intestine rupture, and if they would have diagnosed it in time, the situation won’t have turned into bad to worse. He was quoted as saying:
“It was negligence on the part of the doctors because they couldn’t diagnose what was wrong with him, that his intestine was ruptured. If it was just a regular intestine rupture, they could have repaired it but it went from bad to worse.”
