Former Miss World and actress Manushi Chhillar is set to be seen in a very different light with her upcoming film Maalik, a gangster drama in which she stars alongside Rajkummar Rao for the first time. She plays the role of Shalini.

Rajkummar Rao lauds Manushi Chhillar’s de-glam turn in Maalik: “She’s got an amazing Indian face. She’s very earthy”

At the trailer launch event of Maalik, Rajkummar Rao spoke about working with Manushi and acknowledged her efforts in embracing the de-glam role. He shared, “Not many people think of her to do these D-glam parts, but I think she’s got such an amazing Indian face. I think you should do more of such part because she’s very earthy.”

He further added, “She’s from Haryana. So, language ka bohot hi unko pakad hai, Hindi ka, bohot aasani se aati hai unko. I think she really suited the part very well, and then she worked hard for it. And what you see on the screen now, eventually on July 11, you will be amazed with the performance because nobody, as she said, nobody expected her to play a character like Shalini.”

The trailer of Maalik has sparked discussions around Manushi’s role and the film’s realistic setting. Her portrayal of Shalini offers a glimpse into a more rooted performance style, differing from her past appearances on screen.

Following Maalik, Manushi Chhillar is set to appear in Tehran, an action thriller co-starring John Abraham, which is scheduled to release later in 2025.
