After the CNN report, many of Mark Robinson’s posts were removed from Nude Africa, although it’s unclear whether it was his campaign or the site’s administrators who took them down.
The Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina and current lieutenant governor has faced backlash after a CNN KFile investigation uncovered a series of offensive comments he made on the pornographic website Nude Africa.
These posts, which date from 2008 to 2012, included inflammatory remarks about race, gender, and abortion, and were made under the username “minisoldr.”
Robinson has denied making these comments, labelling the revelations as ‘tabloid trash.’ He argues that the remarks do not reflect his character or beliefs.
Robinson is competing against Democrat Josh Stein to succeed the term-limited Governor Roy Cooper.
After the revelations about his past comments, there were calls for him to withdraw from the race, but he missed the state’s deadline to take his name off the ballot. With absentee ballots about to be mailed.
Trump’s campaign did not comment on whether Robinson should withdraw from the gubernatorial race.
“President Trump’s campaign is focused on winning the White House and revitalizing this country. North Carolina is a vital part of that strategy,” campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated, sidestepping the issue.
“We are confident that as voters compare the Trump record of a strong economy, low inflation, a secure border, and safe streets, with the failures of Biden-Harris, then President Trump will win the Tarheel State once again. We will not take our eye off the ball,” Leavitt continued.
His controversial history could influence voter opinions in this key battleground state, attracting attention from both former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
