When you think of technology, the one name that pops up in the head is Bill Gates. But, not just him, his youngest daughter, Phoebe Gates is making her own position in the world of technology and marketing. In 2024, she got a lot of attention when she co-founded Phia, a sustainable fashion and e-commerce startup, with her former Stanford roommate, Sophia Kianni. Recently, she shared an interesting ChatGPT ‘hack’ that she and Sophia use almost every day to create viral video content.
Phoebe Gates’ ChatGPT ‘hack’
Recently, Phoebe appeared on The Burnouts Podcast, where she revealed that she uses ChatGPT almost every single day to help with marketing for her company, Phia. She said that she uses ‘reverse engineering’ technique with ChatGPT to understand and create viral videos. She shared that instead of making the video from scratch, she and Sophia watch popular Instagram and TikTok videos and note down their important points like, how it starts, the middle and its end. Then they give this information to ChatGPT to analyze what makes those videos work so well. Using that pattern, they ask ChatGPT to write new video scripts. This saves time and creates content that is capable of going viral. Phoebe Gates also said that, “I use AI almost every single day, and it supercharges me.” Sophia Kianni said:
“You should not be starting anything from scratch. The internet exists for a reason.”

Bill Gates and Melinda Gates’ reaction on Phoebe Gates wanting to start her own brand
Recently, Phoebe and Sophia launched their own brand, Phia, but when Phoebe told her parents, Bill Gates and Melinda Gates, their reaction was mixed. Even though they were happy with the thought, they were a little doubtful regarding the finance. In an interview with The New York Times, Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates admitted that he was happy but he immediately got worried that she might ask for money. He later felt relieved when she didn’t. On the other hand, Phoebe’s mother, Melinda Gates was in support of the startup but encouraged her to do it only after completing her Stanford degree. Bill Gates said:
“Wow, a lot of people have tried, and there’s some big guys in there. I thought, Oh boy, she’s going to come and ask. I would have kept her on a short leash and be doing business reviews, which I would have found tricky. And I probably would have been overly nice but wondered if it was the right thing to do.”
More about the company, Phia
The company, Phia is a browser extension and web-based shopping tool. It is also available as an app. The main idea of the company is to make online fashion shopping more transparent and affordable by comparing prices of clothing across over 40,000 retail websites. The tool automatically scans for the best available deals, allowing users to make smarter decisions by choosing cost-effective fashion choices. Phia also highlights sustainability by letting users find options that are budget friendly and eco friendly.
