Over 2 lakh Noida vehicles to be refused at petrol pumps soon – Here’s Why?

Noida’s Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced that starting November 1, petrol and diesel will no longer be provided to vehicles that have crossed the permissible age limit—10 years for diesel and 15 years for petrol. This decision, implemented under the directives of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), is aimed at curbing rising pollution levels across the National Capital Region (NCR).

To enforce the ban, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed at petrol pumps across Noida and Ghaziabad. These cameras will scan vehicle number plates and instantly verify their age through the transport department’s database. Vehicles found to be in violation will be denied fuel on the spot.

According to data from the Gautam Buddha Nagar Transport Department, nearly 2.08 lakh vehicles in the district fall into this restricted category. Notices are already being sent to owners of these vehicles, advising them to take appropriate action.

The RTO has urged owners to either get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to transfer their vehicle outside the NCR or surrender it to the department.

Authorities have warned that failure to comply may result in penalties and seizure. Following the implementation of the order on November 1, the transport and traffic departments are expected to face logistical hurdles, especially in identifying and managing violators.

Also, the dumping of old vehicles will also be a major issue in Noida once the order is implemented, as there is no fixed arrangement for dumping obsolete vehicles in the district.
