Everything is fair in love and war, a famous proverb that has everyone believe that there are no boundaries in love. However, where does one draw the line? A 30-year-old robotics engineer from Chennai questioned all such boundaries by stirring security havoc in not one but eleven states by allegedly sending hoax bomb threats in the name of her love interest. The reason? He did not love her back, and she figured this would be the best way to avenge her heartbreak. But that was not all. She also tried to frame the man for the tragic AI171 crash that happened on June 12, 2025.
An enraged woman sent hoax bomb threats with fake email IDs under her love interest’s name
Unrequited affection can get people to do all sorts of things, but this woman from Chennai, Rene Joshilda, crossed all lines and committed a severe crime when the man she loved didn’t reciprocate her feelings. What she claimed as love could only be labelled as insanity, as she used VPNs and fake email IDs under her alleged love interest, Divij Prabhakar’s name, to stay under the radar as police across multiple states hit a wall while investigating the hoaxes. However, her one mistake brought her castle of cards down.
According to the police, Rene completed her engineering from Chennai and then pursued a course in robotics. She was working in Chennai as a senior consultant at Deloitte and met Divij Prabhakar during a project in Bengaluru. While she fell for him, Divij never reciprocated her feelings and married someone else in February 2025. Blinded by rage, Rene Joshilda plotted the most ruthless revenge. She set up not one but 21 fake email IDs under different variations of Divij’s name and started sending bomb threats to schools, hospitals and sports venues. She even accused him of rape. However, when Divij tried to file a complaint against her, he was not heard.

Rene Joshilda attempted to frame her love interest for the Air India plane crash
Rene Joshilda crossed all lines when she used the tragic Air India flight crash, which claimed the lives of over 270 people, for her revenge. For the unversed, Air India AI171 was scheduled to fly from Ahmedabad to Gatwick on June 12, 2025. However, the plane crashed seconds after it took off on the roof of the BJ Medical College Hostel. Following the crash, the college administration received an email from ‘Divij’ claiming to have crashed the plane. The mail led the police to Rene Joshilda. The email read:
“I think now you know power. Like we sent you mail yesterday, we crashed the Air India plane with our former CM (Vijay Rupani). We know the police would have thought that the plane crash was a hoax and ignored it. Well done to our pilot. Now you know we are not playing. Now you know.”
The mistake that led to Rene Joshilda’s arrest
According to Ahmedabad police, Rene Joshilda covered her tracks well, given her background and knowledge of technology. However, one mistake led to her arrest. Six months ago, Rene, despite her immense caution, logged into her real and fake email IDs using the same device on that one occasion. This mistake resulted in Rene being tracked by the investigators. They were quoted as saying:
“The number she would use to create email IDs would be virtual. She sent threatening emails through Tor browser (a network for anonymous communication) and the Dark Web. She took a lot of precautions. She was very smart and never revealed her digital trail. But she made a small mistake and our cyber crime wing and crime branch tracked her down. That one careless login gave her away.”
