Russian air defence forces destroyed many Ukrainian drones on Tuesday in different regions of Russia, including more than 40 drones near the border in the Voronezh region, Russian officials said.

Alexander Gusev, governor of the Voronezh region, said on Telegram that the air defence units successfully destroyed over 40 drones flying over towns and close to the Ukrainian border. He confirmed that no one was hurt during the attacks.

In the Rostov region, near to the Ukraine border, Governor Yuri Slyusar said that air defence forces stopped several attacks in three separate areas. However, some drones caused damage to a sports complex in the city of Taganrog and a grain storage facility in the town of Azov. “There were no injuries,” Slyusar said.

Similarly, in the Ulyanovsk region along the Volga River, the governor reported that eight drones were stopped and there were no casualties.

Russia’s defence ministry also posted on Telegram that 44 drones were intercepted and destroyed during a period of about four hours. Most of the drones were downed over Voronezh and Belgorod regions near Ukraine, and some were destroyed over areas along the Volga River. As a precaution, airports close to the Volga River were temporarily closed.

Since the war between Russia and Ukraine started over 40 months ago, Ukraine has increased its drone production and use in attacks. Earlier this month, Ukraine launched a strike called “Operation Spider’s Web,” targeting Russian long-range bombers at air bases. According to report, Ukraine’s secret services executed a complex and highly covert operation, damaging 41 Russian warplanes at multiple airbases deep inside Russian territory.

Meanwhile, Russia has also stepped up drone and missile attacks on Ukraine. On Tuesday, a missile attack in southeastern Ukraine killed at least 17 people.
