Nashville’s Deep Tropics festival has announced the lineup for the annual sustainability summit that precedes the event.

Taking place on Aug. 14 at Nashville’s Studio 615, the Deep Culture Summit will feature Tony Cho, the CEO/founder of Future of Cities — a real estate development platform focused on environmental, social and governance principles, with the goal of designing cities that restore ecosystems, uplift culture and empower communities.

Additionally, artist and activist Madame Gandhi will perform music sampling the sounds of threatened ecosystems, while Prince Haru of Brazil’s Kuntanawa Nation will give a talk on how he advocates for indigenous sovereignty and biocultural regeneration in the Amazon. Justin Jones, a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, will also present, as will Kristy Drutman, a speaker, consultant, media producer and environmental educator. See the complete lineup below.

Deep Culture precedes the Deep Tropics festival, set to happen Aug. 15-16 in Bicentennial Park with a lineup including Chris Lake, Lane 8, Alison Wonderland, Subtronics and Will Clarke.

After debuting in 2017, the sustainability-focused Deep Tropics festival has established itself as a singularly environmentally-friendly event. The fest has no trash cans on site, with all materials at the festival being either compostable, recyclable or reusable. The event reports that in 2024, it reached an 87% diversion rate, saving 7,387 pounds of waste from entering landfills.

Amid a flurry of other sustainability initiatives, the event has also assisted in the planting of more than 101,000 trees since 2001. This year’s edition of Deep Tropics is set to power the majority of the festival with renewable energy systems and batteries.
