Over the weekend, Miley Cyrus found herself trending after a number of viral clips appeared to show her ignoring fans at a signing event with Naomi Campbell in London, celebrating the vinyl release of their song, “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved.”
For context, Naomi livestreamed the event on Instagram, so there are tons of different clips from the stream making the rounds online. And while some of the footage shows Miley and Naomi sharing sweet moments with fans as they lined up to get their vinyls signed, other parts of the livestream made it seem like Miley and Naomi spent more time talking to one another than engaging with fans.
In one particularly awkward clip from Naomi’s livestream, she and Miley can be seen chatting away to each other while a fan stands in front of them. When a photographer prompts them to pose for a picture, Miley seemingly glances up at the fan for a split second and half-heartedly poses, without so much as exchanging a single word with them before they walk away.
Needless to say, the videos like these were not received well. And people wasted no time criticizing Miley for seemingly failing to give some of her fans the time and acknowledgment they deserved. “Wow! That’s so inconsiderate & rude IMO,” one user wrote on Reddit, while someone else added: “I’d be so disappointed if I waited in line for someone I was excited for just to be straight up dismissed and ignored.”
As Naomi’s full livestream shows, not all the interactions were so awkward, and since the backlash, several fans who were at the event have spoken out to say that they still had a great experience. And now, with clips still making the rounds online, Miley has shared a post about the event on Instagram, in which she said that she and Naomi “adored meeting” all the fans who showed up.
She did not make reference to any of the backlash, which I guess isn’t all that surprising. But what do you make of this whole thing? LMK in the comments.
