The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received approval on Monday to administer a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in the horrific rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

On Saturday, the CBI conducted a psychoanalysis test on the accused, who is currently in the agency’s custody.  The Kolkata Police arrested the individual a day after the body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital’s chest department between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Friday.

Roy became a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police in 2019. Authorities claimed that he had been married at least four times and described him as a “womaniser.” According to a PTI report, the accused is a trained boxer who had developed close relationships with several senior police officers over the years. He was transferred to the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and assigned to the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The incident occurred on August 9 when a postgraduate trainee doctor was reportedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College, sparking widespread strikes and protests within the medical community.
